King’s Dominion – Tumbili

Tumbili, a 4-D Free Spin roller coaster manufactured by S&S – Sensei Technologies made its debut in the Spring of 2022. Tumbili is the centerpiece of the newly re-imagined Jungle X-Pedition area (formerly Safari Village).

The word Tumbili is Swahili for “monkey”. The ride is designed to mimic the motion of mystical monkeys weightlessly tumbling and spinning head-over-heel through the jungle treetops.

The ride’s constant motion, small footprint, and wind load forces created a fascinating design challenge. Our solution was a concrete and steel mat raft foundation system. This eliminated the need for expensive deep pilings, saving the client money, and creating more opportunities to theme the ride.

The jungle theming of Tumbili offers plenty of visual and audible interest for riders to be fully engaged before, during, and after the ride. Theming includes:

• Coaster supports painted to look like giant bamboo
• Surrounding buildings clad with ruinous thematic overlays
• Custom lighting package to simulate life in the jungle
• Jungle-like soundtrack, props, murals, maps, posters, and signage
