2016 Favorite Things

Our 2016 Favorite Things

At the end of the year, do you look back and think about your favorite things? Here at the office, we have a tradition of reflecting back on products that really worked for us and experiences that were really special. 2016 was a great year for our city, our clients, and our business. In appreciation for all the blessing of a great year, here are our 2016 favorite things.

Favorite Team

Chicago Cubs 2016 World Series Champions

wrigley-fieldFans far and wide celebrated as the Cubs overcame their longtime losing streak of 107 years to become the World Series Champions!  Little did we know when we took in a pre-season game at Sloan Park in Mesa, AZ that the Cubs would have such a historic season! We’ll never forget the jubilation in the streets of Chicago following the Chicago Cubs win over the Cleveland Indians. We’re optimistic for a repeat in 2017.

Favorite Gift

Crate & Barrel “Thankful” stemless wine glasses

Crate & Barrel’s popular stemless wine glass extends a grateful holiday message that says it all: “Thankful”. We appreciate our clients and those who support our desire to design the built environment.

Favorite Vacation

Road Trip to Ohio

Road trip! This past summer, Chuck’s family took a road trip to Sandusky, Ohio to Cedar Point amusement park. Known for its amazing roller coasters, the park is located on a beautiful peninsula on Lake Erie, close to Toledo and Cleveland. Chuck’s family enjoyed a day of exhilarating thrill rides and family fun. They also attended the Western & Southern Open tennis tournament in Cincinnati. They viewed the action from center baseline 1st-row seats and scored autographs from players including tennis pro Rafael Nadal. Ace!

Favorite Office Lunch

Shakou Sushi Bento Box

2016 Favorite ThingsJust steps from our office in downtown Libertyville, we are blessed with many good restaurants. Although it’s difficult to choose, our favorite office lunch this year was the delicious bento box from our client Shakou Sushi. Served in a beautiful two-part lacquered box, the daily hot lunch is available with chicken, salmon, shrimp, or beef.

Six Flags Great America Justice League: Battle for Metropolis

Facility Design

Justice League Battle for Metropolis at Six Flags Great America

If you follow us, you know that we’re nuts about theme parks and attractions. Vacations typically include a day at the local theme park so we’re pretty picky about rides. This year, we’re voting for Justice League: Battle for Metropolis at Six Flags Great America. Designed by Sally Corporation and integrated into the park by yours truly, this dark ride features a motion-based ride system by Oceaneering International.

Favorite Architectural Tour

Chicago River Architectural Tour & Taliesin West

Chicago Architecture Boat Tour

Chicago Architecture Boat Tour

It’s a tie! We couldn’t decide which one we liked best. Bob’s family and their friends from New Mexico enjoyed a beautiful fall day cruising on the Chicago River. A docent from the Chicago Architecture Foundation conducted the group tour, sharing the river’s history and architecture on the Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise. In the spring, they visited Bob’s sister Susie in Scottsdale, Arizona and toured Taliesin West, the gorgeous and unique winter home of Frank Lloyd Wright. For both tours, early reservations are recommended.

Favorite Finish Material

Mohawk Artist II carpet tile

After 15 years of heavy use and abuse, the neutral carpet tiles in the office had definitely seen their day. We decided it was time to replace the carpeting in our office space and we chose to use Mohawk Artist II carpet tile. Bob is making great progress installing the beautiful new tiles while keeping up with the Blackhawks.

Wishing You a Happy New Year!
